Regular readers are no-doubt aware that Governor Moonbeam signed six fairly draconian anti-Second Amendment measures on his way out the door for vacation on July 1.
Some of these, like the confiscation of legally owned rifle and pistol magazines, will probably-maybe NOT pass court muster as it is a clear taking of private property without compensation. (Though god knowns what the courts will actually say about anything anymore.) Others, like a background check for an ammo buyer’s license, will probably pass legal scrutiny as other states have similar laws on the books. Some, like the restrictions on ammo acquisition, are somewhere in the middle.
Enter Barry Bahrami of Carlsbad, CA. Yesterday (07-15) Bahrami filed six referendum petitions with the SecState’s office, one for each of the six bills that Moonbeam signed into law. That office will review them for legal compliance, general description, etc. Assuming that happens Bahrami will have until September 29 to gather 365,880 valid signatures to place the referendums on the ballot. Each of them will, if passed by the voters, overturn one of the specific bills that Moonbeam signed.
It is, I understand, a long shot to believe it will make it thru to the end. A long shot, however, is better than no shot.
The petitions should be available around July 25. You can bet I will get my grubby little paws on a few copies.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Bob, get your grubby little paws on a whole bunch of those petitions. Then get all the dead that always vote for Democrats (and some Republicans) to sign the forms. You can get their names at every cemetery. That way there might be an outside chance, albeit a very slim one, that 400,000 signatures will be obtained by September 29.
