SAIGON THEN AND KABUL NOW

By Howie Katz

r/interestingasfuck - History repeats itself, Evacuation of the US Embassy, Saigon 1975 - Kabul 2021.
Evacuation of US embassies: Saigon 1975 (L) and Kabul 2021 (R)

"There's going to be no circumstance where you're going to see people being lifted off the roof of a (sic) embassy of the United States from Afghanistan," President Biden said during a press conference on July 8, 2021.

Yeah, right.

Sunday on CNN, Secretary of State Antony Blinken insisted the situation in Afghanustan "is not Saigon."  He stated "Remember, this is not Saigon. We went to Afghanistan 20 years ago with one mission, and that mission was to deal with the folks who attacked us on 9/11 and we have succeeded in that mission."

Getting rid of al-Qaida was only one part of the mission.  We also wanted to form a government friendly to us with an army that would be trained and equipped by us.  While we did succed in driving al-Qaida out of Afghanistan, we failed miserably with the rest of the mission.

I'm sure Blinken has seen pictures of the Saigon evacuation, and if he took a close look at the above pictures, he would see that this Kabul evacuation is exactly like Saigon.
