WHEN I STUDIED FOR MY DEGREES AT UNT, THE TERM ‘NIGGER’ WAS COMMONLY USED, BUT TODAY IT IS STRICTLY VERBOTEN

Texas university attorney resigns one day after she used the n-word as an example of 'protected free speech' during a panel, sparking outrage among students

Caitlin Sewell, the assistant general counsel for the University of North Texas, resigned from her post on Friday.

It was less than 24 hours after she used the n-word during free speech event called 'When Hate Comes to Campus'. She used the offensive slur as an example of protected free speech.

However, her use of the word sparked outrage among audience members.

The university announced her resignation in a statement to students saying: 'This language is never condoned in our community'.

EDITOR’S NOTE: UNT, like most American institutions of higher education, punishes those who use the – God forbit – word even when it is only used to explain protected speech. Ironically, her speech was not protected.
