A man was charged with knifing and deflating the “Baby Trump” balloon that was stationed near the University of Alabama football game in protest of President Trump’s Saturday visit.
Hoyt Deau Hutchinson, 32, allegedly cut an 8-foot-long gash into the back of the giant inflatable, which depicts a bright orange Trump donning a diaper and clutching a cell phone.
“It is rare to get that kind of anger,” said Robert Kennedy, who was watching over the balloon in a nearby park as a volunteer “baby sitter.”
Hutchinson, who lives in Tuscaloosa, where the game was played, fled the crime scene after his alleged attack. He was later arrested and charged with criminal mischief.
Kennedy said it’s the first time he’s witnessed an attack on “Baby Trump.”
The Trump balloon made its debut last summer during Trump’s trip to the United Kingdom.
Since then, replicas of the inflatable have followed Trump across the globe.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Was Trump’s visit to Alabama an ill omen for the home team? LSU eliminated Alabama from the college football playoffs.
