VICE-PRESIDENTS DON'T MATTER

Unless They Do

by Bob Walsh

There is always a lot of BS about balancing a ticket. That being said, the choice of a VP does not USUALLY have any great impact. Usually.

In 1960 the Democrat party machine insisted that JFK put an old-time Pol on the ticket. He picked LBJ and with JFK's daddy's money and Johnson's political connections every cemetery in Texas and Illinois voted for JFK, giving them the election.

FDR's VP had been Henry Wallace. Wallace was at a minimum a hard-core socialist and was probably a Communist. He was an open admirer of the USSR. In 1944 it became obvious that FDR's health was failing and the Republicans threatened to make an issue of it in the election. FDR gave Wallace the heave-ho and put in Harry Truman. The rest was history. Had he not done so it is distinctly possible that FDR would not have been elected to his fourth term.

This time around the Dems will be putting in a candidate (Either Crazy Bernie or Senile Joe) who are both superannuated and have obvious health issues. The choice of a VP could turn out to be, as Joe Biden so aptly put things, a BIG FUCKING DEAL.

EDITOR'S NOTE: I predict Crazy Bermie will strike out or be struck out by the DNC and that it will be Joe 'White Obama' Biden and Amy Klobuchar, a formidable ticket against Trump and Pence.
