Yes, the West Midlands Police in the United Kingdom has approved the wearing of a burka for on-duty female Muslim officers. This is being done allegedly to improve the recruitment of non-white non-male police officers within the force.
The PD already allows Sikh officers to wear the traditional turban on duty rather than a duty helmet and has allowed Muslim female officers to wear the hijab scarf that covers the head and neck but does not cover the face.
The West Midlands force is currently recruiting for about 1,100 positions. So far none of the female Muslim recruits has expressed any interest in wearing a burka while on duty.
