Boris Johnson the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has managed to get his general election. It is scheduled for December 12. He wants enough backing for his Brexit plan so that he can finally follow the will of the people, expressed three years ago, to get the fuck out of the European Union, hopefully with an exit deal or plan so that international trade in the area does not grind to a halt.
How well his plan will succeed is open to debate. The E.U. gave the U.K. and extension from 10-31-19 to 01-31-20. It is distinctly possible that, come January 31, the E. U. will just say WE ARE TIRED OF THIS SHIT and pull the plug. That is, however, far from a sure thing. A lot of things that the U.K. really needs are no longer made in the U. K. (like many medications and body bags). If they just break away the tax and import situation becomes something that must be settled out very quickly. Even the physical structure is an issue. Actual places for conducting customs inspections and passport examinations do not exist any more. Due to the long-standing political situation the border between Northern Ireland and Ireland is likely to become a shooting gallery if there is an attempt to reestablish a hard border.
The people voted OUT. Much of the political ruling class and the intelligencia have repeatedly said BAD IDEA and are standing in the way of an orderly exit, in hopes that they can stall Brexit to death if people are unwilling to go out with a no-deal Brexit.
At some point the can will run out of road to be kicked down. Who will win, the peasants or the masters? I am betting on the peasants, but I would not be the farm on it. Maybe just next week's lunch money.
EDITOR'S NOTE: The election to pull out of the EU was extremely close and the legitimacy of the results were hotly debated. Boris may not get the results he wants in the forthcoming election.
