After close to a thousand anti-police protesters in Downtown Brooklyn Friday shouted obscene insults at NYPD cops, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez expressed her solidarity with the ugly mob by tweeting:
“Ending mass incarceration means challenging a system that jails the poor to free the rich. Arresting people who can’t afford a $2.75 fare makes no one safer and destabilizes our community. New Yorkers know that, they’re not having it, and they’re standing up for each other.”
The protesters had large banners that read “Fuck the police” and “Don’t let these pigs touch us.” They scrawled “Fuck NYPD” and “NYPD KKK,” on a bus with a white marker. Other acts of vandalism occurred, including the trashing of police cars.
The protesters were mainly demonstrating against the arrest of fare jumpers.
By supporting the mob, AOC was in effect encouraging NYC subway fare jumping and disrespect for the police.
By the end of 2018, fare evasion had already cost the city’s transit system $215 million.
