A famous opera singer and his husband have been arrested on suspicion of raping a young singer who claims he was left bleeding from the rectum after blacking out at an after-show party with the pair in Texas, in 2010.
David Daniels, 52, and his conductor husband Scott Walters, 37, were arrested in Michigan, where they live, on Tuesday night.
They are being held in county jail and aware awaiting extradition to Houston where they are accused of raping Samuel Schultz after a performance in 2010.
Schultz came forward last August with his allegations, waiving his anonymity as the possible victim of a sex crime to describe how the couple allegedly preyed on him.
He reported his claims to the Houston Police Department at the same time.
In his complaint, Schultz, who was 23 at the time, described how he rarely drinks but accepted a drink from Daniels once they got back to the home the couple was staying in.
He said he 'blacked out' afterwards and came to the next day when he found himself in severe pain, alone in the house.
'I was sore and I didn't know why. I made my way to the bathroom to figure out why I hurt. I was bleeding from my rectum.
'I became numb. I was paralyzed with fear. What had happened? How could I escape? How would I get out? Where were my clothes?' ' he wrote.
Daniels and Walters were out at breakfast at the time but when they returned, he claims Daniels told him they had had unprotected sex.
''I remember David saying, “Don't worry about the BB thing, I'm totally negative.''
'BB in this case meant bareback, otherwise known as raping me without a condom,' Schultz wrote.
He said he decided to report the pair to police after eight years because he was emboldened by the #MeToo movement.
A Houston Police Department spokesman confirmed the pair's arrest on Wednesday but would not give further details.
They remain behind bars in Michigan. Their extradition may be delayed because of the severe weather conditions in Michigan.
An attorney for the couple told DailyMail.com on Wednesday that they were innocent and that Schultz was merely trying to make a name for himself.
'David and Scott are innocent of any wrongdoing. Sam Schultz is not a victim.
'He never would have gotten this much attention from his singing, and he knows and resents that fact.
'He waited eight years to complain about adult, consensual sex to ride the MeToo movement to unearned celebrity. We will fight this,' Matt Hennessy said.
The pair were married in a 2014 ceremony that was officiated by Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsburg.
Daniels has been accused in the past of soliciting men on Grindr and was reported to police in 2017 for allegedly asking a man to perform a sex act through the app.
No charges were ever brought.
He has also previously faced complaints from students at the University of Michigan, where he is a tenured professor including one who sued him in October.
Daniels filed a counter suit in October.
He took a paid leave of absence from his post last year after Schultz made his allegations public.
The University of Michigan said on Wednesday that it was aware of his arrest and would continue to 'closely monitor the situation.'
He is paid more than $191,000 a year by the university.
