After Beyoncé glorified the police- hating Black Panthers with her halftime Super Bowl show in 2016, I stopped watching what I call the "Stupor Bowl." To me it's just a hyped-up football game. Sunday was no different except that I watched the Bad Bunny halftime show.
I really have no interest in rap, except for reading about the latest rap artist getting shot. I never even heard of Bad Bunny until the NFL got a lot of flack when it announced that he would be featured in this years stupor bowl. That is because the Puerto Rican - true name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio - has been badmouthing Trump since 2017. And during the recent Grammy Awards he slammed ICE during his acceptance speech.
What I saw was simply a fantastic show. As can be expected since Bad Bunny has criticized him, that's not the way Trump saw it.. Here is what he said on his Truth Social website:
What a load of garbage. Except for his statement about the stock market, evrything else is a downright lie or stretches the truth. Even had Bad Bunny sung in English, most people would not have understood it. And his remark about young children is laughable.
A translation of what Bad Bunny sang in Spanish revealed that the lyrics were full of explicit sexual content and obscenities which conservative commentator Megan Basham described as "the most obscene lyrics ever to be performed at a Super Bowl halftime." But that should not have surprised her since rap is typically full of sex, violence and obscenities. And that did not change how spectacular the Bad Bunny show was.
It's too bad that the 'Trump Uber Alles' TV viewers chose to watch the counter-show from Turning Point USA. They missed a truly fantastic show.
